CHAPTER FOURTEEN

‘Everyone, this is David Sanderson,’ Bertha said introducing the first of three expected guests.

Graham, Lilly Anne and Juliet exchanged pleasantries with the latest member of their demon-hunting party, trying to make him feel welcome into their exclusive and small group.

‘So do you live locally?’ Lilly Anne politely asked.

‘My family and I live in Perris,’ David replied before taking a seat on the couch between Bertha and Juliet. His tall, lean frame towering above the two women that sat on either side of him.

‘David lost his father just a few days ago,’ Bertha said.

‘I’m so sorry to hear that,’ Lilly Anne said with feeling.

‘So have you all lost someone under the same set of circumstances?’ David asked, finding it hard to believe that he was sitting in a room with four strangers trying to find out if a demon had killed their loved ones. If any of his air force buddies could see or hear him now they would think he had lost his marbles and part of him would probably agree with them.

‘Most of us have,’ Graham answered on behalf of the group. ‘Lilly Anne and Bertha both lost their husbands and I lost my wife but Juliet’s son had a lucky escape.’ Graham thought about mentioning Patrick but then thought against it. The last thing he wanted to do was scare the man.

‘I have to admit that I am having a hard time believing that a creature from hell killed my father,’ David admitted to the group. ‘I don’t think my wife and kids would believe me if I told them what I saw that night.’

‘It’s best you don’t tell them anyway,’ Graham warned him.

‘Why?’ David asked looking around the room at the sombre faces.

‘This creature is still watching you,’ Graham continued. ‘Just as it has been watching the rest of us. It knows that we are planning to hunt it out and destroy it and it has let us know that it isn’t too pleased by our plans.’

‘So in other words me being here could actually put my family at risk?’ David said as fear for his wife and children swept through his body.

‘They were at risk right from the minute you saw the demon,’ Bertha told him. ‘This creature wants to watch you and your family being destroyed. It thrives on pain and anguish.’

David sat in silence, his mind recollecting the wicked vision on the night of his father’s death. It had killed one member of his family already. There was no way he would allow the demon to harm his wife or daughters.

‘Bertha told me that you want to kill this thing. Do you really think that is possible?’ David said his voice full of doubt.

‘Yes we do,’ Graham forcefully answered. ‘But first of all we have to find out where this thing is hiding between meals. I have a few suggested areas and was hoping that someone would be willing to accompany me on checking them out.’ He turned and looked directly at Lilly Anne.
